Obituary for Melissa Goers

Melissa Goers, 46, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, September 3, 2016, at the MHP Emergency Room in Oskaloosa. She was born April 28, 1970, at Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Richard and Mary Willits Coulter. She graduated from Muscatine High School with the class of 1988. On September 16, 1988, she was united in marriage to Tim Goers in Oskaloosa. Following their marriage, Melissa stayed home to care for their family and home. Once her children were grown, she decided to pursue a career in nursing. She completed nursing school at Indian Hills Community College and started working as an L.P.N. For the past five years she has worked at Oskaloosa Care Center as an L.P.N. Melissa’s family was the center of her life, she would light up when her children and grandchildren were around. She took great pride in her work and enjoyed caring for her patients. She also enjoyed the camaraderie of the people she worked with at Oskaloosa Care Center. She will be remembered for her kind and giving spirit.

Her family includes her husband of nearly 28 years, Tim Goers of Oskaloosa; three daughters, Kimberly (Ryan) Goodsell of Wichita, Kansas, Jessica (Johnthein) Weaver and Amanda Goers all of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren, Grace, Janaeshia, Joelle, Ryleigh, Ava, and Mason; her father and his wife, Richard and Nancy Coulter of Muscatine; her step father, Kay Collins of Waterloo; a sister, Kim Urbano of Waterloo; three brothers, Mike Searl of Waterloo, Richard (Shawna) Coulter of Pella, and Eric Coulter of Davenport; a brother in law, Daniel Goers of Ottumwa; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Visitation for Melissa will be held Monday, September 5, 2016 in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa. Open visitation will begin after 10 a.m. on Monday at the funeral chapel and the family will be present from 1-3 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. As was Melissa’s wish, her body will be cremated following the visitation. Memorials may be made to the family. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
